Rabbi Budow has a notable collection of sports memorabilia. One of his most prized possessions is a signed Sandy Koufax jersey. He brought the framed jersey into school to show the middle school students and talk about commitment to Judaism and the significance of Koufax’s decision to not pitch in Game One of the 1965 World Series because it was Yom Kippur.
Sports are very much a part of American culture and because Sandy Koufax is Jewish it teaches an important lesson about sacrifice and being true to your beliefs.
