Abrams Residence
|
The 8th grade made its monthly visit to Abrams Residence. The students played games and cards with the residents. The students and seniors enjoyed food, fun and had wonderful conversations. A great time was had by all!

Meet the Abrams PTO Chairs!
This year, Efrat Attoun and Ruti Stark are Co-Presidents of the Abrams PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization).
Monica Matlis is Treasurer, Liora Zirkel is Secretary, Dalya Redel is the Pre-school Chair, Cynthia Panday is the Elementary Chair and Tali Zur is the Middle School Chair. Our goal is to support our teachers and strengthen our parent community.

Grades K-4 Classroom Showcase
|
Kindergarten
Kindergarten had a fun and busy week! We continued our thematic unit on Fall. In Science, the children made adorable paper bag trees. They worked together and were so proud of the magna tile structures they built! Next week will be very special because the Kindergartners will learn how to be “bucket fillers” as we begin our unit on spreading kindness!
1st Grade
Congratulations to Morah Sonia’s 1st grade on receiving Ariot 2 this week. It was a real celebration!
Mrs. Zuazo’s class began the week with a visit from our therapy dogs and their handlers….. Is there anything better? 1st graders used their letters sounds and their reading skills with confidence as they read their library books to their furry friends.
They also explored “Air is Everywhere” with a straw and learned that air moves things.
1st graders also found ways to move solid shapes. They discovered shapes can stack, roll, or slide. Ask your child what they built this week with solid and plane shapes?
2nd Grade
Second grade began to discuss things we are thankful for. We wrote them down on a colored leaf and will add them to our Thanksgiving display. We have leaves available for others who would like to join us!
3rd Grade
3rd grade is starting a unit on communities. We have begun discussing physical characteristics of a community. We have learned about landforms, natural disasters, and natural resources.
4th Grade
This week 4th grade started learning about graphs. We learned how to make a single bar graph and a double bar graph. We also will be learning about line graphs, circle graphs, and more. We also continued reading Shiloh, learned about verbs, and had a Social Studies test!

Grades 5-8 Classroom Showcase

5th Grade English
5th grade using their study skills by making flash cards for their next test. They are helping each other study.
6th, 7th and 8th Grade Social Studies
It’s nearing the end of the marking period, so that means it’s binder check time! 8th graders already handed theirs in; 6th and 7th graders will turn them in next week. Binder checks allow me to check how note taking is going, make sure classwork is being done and train students to be more organized. Overall, our students do very well!
Science Update
Thursday morning Abrams students in grades k-6 were able to participate in a traveling National theater for children performance called “The Conservation Caper”. This program is provided by PECO. The students were encouraged to be energy superheroes just like Nikki Neutron. We were all encouraged to:

6th Grade Math Update
We are winding up our 1st marking period! Earlier this week we concluded a chapter on decimals with a test. We are now on to a taste of statistics. We will be dabbling with mean, median, and mode. Not to mention creating bar graphs, line graphs, and frequency tables. It should be a fun chapter!
6th Grade Jewish History
Morah Raya Benhaim’s 6th grade Jewish History class remembered the life of Yitzhak Rabin in a special program. Each student researched a different part of his life and how it impacted Israel. It was a moving presentation that highlighted Rabin’s important contributions to Israeli history.

Mrs. Borrus and her 7th grade Hebrew language class had fun while acting out a scene from from their text book about a group of students visiting Israel.

Updated Car Pool Rules
|
Please note the updated car pool rules. When the parents, staff, and administration work together we can ensure a safe dismissal at the end of each day at Abrams.
- All students will remain inside until they are called by the teacher responsible for car-line. No exceptions!
- First-come-first-serve: Students will be called in order of the placement of the cars in line, in an orderly fashion.
- Parents please do not get out of the car during car-line. The staff will assist you once you reach the front of the line.
- Parents must not drive around other cars in car-line; please stay in line until your child or children are called.
- If parents would like to enter the building to collect their children or speak to teachers, please park beyond the car pool line area
- If there is a specific reason you have to have your children expedited early, please email Rabbi O ahead of time so arrangements can be made in advance.
With our eye towards safety, we want to ensure that the Abrams car pool line is a safe environment.

Open houses in people’s homes is an effective way to meet with families who are potentially interested in enrolling their children at Abrams. Abrams thanks Oorah, a nonprofit organization located in Lakewood, NJ for all of its financial support to our students.
Oorah sponsors numerous programs that all share the common goal of opening doors for Jewish children and families. The mission is to reach out to Jewish families everywhere with opportunities to make their Judaic heritage more personal, relevant and meaningful.
Abrams received $100,000 in scholarship aid for qualified families this year from Oorah and is extremely grateful for the generosity of this organization.

Reminder- AHA Security Procedures:
- All parents should use the front door to enter the school with key cards and not the back doors. Parent swipe cards only work at front door.
- Please do not ask students to open any doors- parents must report to the front office and check-in before entering the school.
- No student or other person should use the lunchroom doors other than for dismissal or emergency purposes.
These rules are for our children’s safety.

Birthday Celebrations at School
When sending birthday treats into school to celebrate that special day for your child, please consider sending in a healthy treat, such as frozen fruit bars, rice cakes, fruit salad or cups, sugar free pudding snacks, yogurt cake or pie, cheese sticks, light popcorn or air popped popcorn (when age appropriate), pretzels, carrots/celery (when age appropriate).
Please do not send anything with nuts due to allergies.
In order to maintain a consistent kashrut policy and to avoid confusion, ALL orders for birthday cakes/cupcakes MUST be ordered from Cramer’s Bakery, 16 E. Afton Avenue, Yardley. Cramer’s will deliver the order to the school at a discounted price.

Car Pool Rules:
All Parents who Car Pool:
Please note that the car pool line is for grades N and K only. All other students are to be dropped off in the front of the building.
Parents who use the back for drop off should follow the directions of the teachers in the parking lot. They are there to assist students and maintain a safe environment.
Under no circumstances are parents to park their cars in the middle of the line and leave them unattended to walk students into the building.
** We ask that parents refrain from cellphone use in the parking areas while dropping off and picking up their children.
