Dear Parents:

As the Presidential election has shown, the media now plays an increasingly important role in influencing politic and policies, and Dan Lieberman ’01, is an Abrams alumnus who is a rising star in the broadcast field. The bright lines between traditional media coverage and digital venues like Facebook, Snapchat, etc., are becoming more and more blurred, and Dan’s digital reports will be shared with CNN’s TV and digital audiences.

Dan has held positions both on-air and behind the scenes as a correspondent, anchor and producer at news outlets that include ABC, Nightline, and Fusion. His new position is with CNN as a long-form/original series correspondent for digital and TV. Dan conceptualizes and presents stories that focus on social issues such as criminal justice, the war against drugs, addiction, and violent extremism in the U.S. His reporting focuses on the most marginalized populations in the U.S., demonstrating how politics and policies affect the lives of average citizens.

Abrams is proud of Dan and the path he has taken to make a difference in the world. It is gratifying to watch our alumni build on the education and Jewish values taught at Abrams as their careers unfold. Dan is one of many Abrams alumni who have exciting, meaningful careers, and we will showcase more of our alums in the future.

P.S.- I usually watch Fox News, but now that Dan is at CNN I might have to watch that, too!

EITC Update

Thanks to everyone who came forward to participate in the EITC program for individuals so quickly! We have over $70,000 committed to the program for this year’s bonus funding and are grateful to our AHA community for its support, particularly on such short notice.

Now that we have completed the process for individuals to participate in 2016 our next task is to identify businesses that pay PA taxes and would be willing to participate in EITC on Abrams’ behalf.

The date for new business applications to the EITC program is July 1, 2017.

As you know, the business receives a tax credit in PA and a tax deduction on federal income taxes.

If you or someone you know has a business that can take advantage of this opportunity and help Abrams to offer financial assistance to our qualifying families, please contact Rabbi Ira Budow at 215-584-7919.

**We are starting now so that everyone is ready for he July 1, 2017 application date. The applications are ALL submitted on the same day, on a first-come, first-served basis, so timing is very critical.

Abrams is pleased to announce that Judy Kozak will be assisting in the Kindergarten class along with Ms. Miller! Mrs. Kozak will be in the classroom 3 days a week.

We are extremely fortunate to welcome our beloved Mrs. Kozak back to the Abrams family to add her special touch to Kindergarten.

Chanukah at the Abrams Residence

Chanukah Visit to Abrams Residence

Our 8th grade students visited “their” seniors at the Abrams Residence and shared the experience of Chanukah. They talked, created craft projects, and enjoyed donuts together as part of the monthly get-togethers funded by the Legacy Heritage Fund.

Once again, our students brought their ruach to the Abrams Residence and continued to forge inter-generational bonds with new friends.

This interaction is definitely a win-win for all concerned.

Safe Kids Presentation

Spotlight on Morah Bracha

Morah Bracha’s 5th grade Dinim (Jewish Law) students are currently studying the laws relating to the Beit Knesset.

The class is learning everything there is to know about the synagogue- i.e., Tefilot, the ark, the Bimah, and the Ner Tamid, customs, and the Torah service.

The Synagogue is the focal point of Jewish life, and Morah Bracha’s goal is to give her students a full appreciation and understanding of the magnitude of its’ importance.

The students will each be assigned a historic synagogue to research and replicate in a model to be displayed at the school. Stay tuned for pictures of the exhibit…..

JNF and Israel Fires

Jewish National Fund is working in cooperation with Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael (KKL), JNF partner organizations, first-responders, and firefighting battalions to address both the immediate needs and those that will arise tomorrow for the land and people of Israel as a result of these fires.

Donations will fund:

Intensive reforestation of areas destroyed by fires;
Critically needed fire-fighting trucks and equipment;
Assistance to those affected by the fires.

Just a reminder of AHA security procedures:

All parents should use the front door to enter the school with key cards and not the back doors. Parent swipe cards only work at front door.
Please do not ask students to open any doors- parents must report to the front office and check-in before entering the school.
No student or other person should use the lunchroom doors other than for dismissal or emergency purposes.

These rules are for our children’s safety.

Car Pool Rules

All Parents who Car Pool:

Please note that the car pool line is for grades N and K only. All other students are to be dropped off in the front of the building.

Parents who use the back for drop off should follow the directions of the teachers in the parking lot. They are there to assist students and maintain a safe environment.

Under no circumstances are parents to park their cars in the middle of the line and leave them unattended to walk students into the building.

** We ask that parents refrain from cellphone use in the parking areas while dropping off and picking up their children.

When sending birthday treats into school to celebrate that special day for your child, please consider sending in a healthy treat, such as frozen fruit bars, rice cakes, fruit salad or cups, sugar free pudding snacks, yogurt cake or pie, cheese sticks, light popcorn or air popped popcorn (when age appropriate), pretzels, carrots/celery (when age appropriate).Please avoid nuts because of allergies.

In order to maintain a consistent kashrut policy and to avoid confusion, ALL orders for birthday cakes/cupcakes MUST be ordered from Cramer’s Bakery, 16 E. Afton Avenue, Yardley. Cramer’s will deliver the order to the school at a discounted price.
