Dear Parents:
Affordability is the major issue that impedes families from sending their children to day school. I realize that paying private school tuition, particularly for more than one child, is difficult. Thank Hashem that we have been fortunate to receive substantial funding from the EITC program and other donor sources that ease the financial burden for our families.
Our most important mission now is to increase enrollment and fill our school with students. On that note, I am happy to announce that we are able to offer scholarships for 15 NEW students starting in 2017-18. These scholarships are limited to students who are not currently enrolled at Abrams and have not attended Abrams previously.
The grants will fund 1/3 of the net tuition (the cost after other financial aid is applied) for new students for a period of three years. Scholarships are limited to ONE child in each new family and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition to these new scholarships, there are several other financial aid programs already in place that, in conjunction with these grants, can reduce tuition costs substantially and make it possible for more families to send their children to Abrams. Carol Wallace will be glad to explain these other programs further upon request.
The board has also approved a new recruitment program to incentivize synagogues to refer congregants to Abrams. The synagogue will receive a sum of money for each NEW student referred by the synagogue whose family enrolls him/her at Abrams and fulfills its financial obligations to the school.
Finally, I would like to give thanks to the PTO for organizing and staffing the annual Thanksgiving feast. Special appreciation goes to Sarah Weinstein and Meryl Widensky, along with all the other PTO volunteers. Of course, we could not do this without the culinary skills of Aaron Weinstein, so many thanks to him, as well.
Our Thanksgiving Extravaganza provides us an opportunity to have fun as a community and to show our thankfulness for living in the U.S. The United States has opened its arms to Jews far more than any other country, and it is important that we recognize and appreciate our good fortune to be living in freedom with unlimited opportunities in the United States of America.

Aaron Weinstein will once again supervise the frying of the turkeys, and Sarah Weinstein, Meryl Widensky and the PTO will make sure that everyone has plenty to eat!
Grandparents are especially invited to share in this community-wide event!

SQUARE 1 ART
This week you should have received a packet with your child’s art work. You may purchase many different objects decorated with your child’s masterpiece- a phone case, pillow, tote bag, mug, etc. Think Chanukah gifts!
The money received will be used to purchase additional art supplies for the classroom.
Orders can be placed easily on-line, or you can send in the order form included in your packet. If you did not receive a packet or have further questions, please contact Donna Moskowitz.
Orders must be placed by November 29 to ensure Chanukah delivery.

Safety and Security Reminders

Just a reminder of AHA security procedures:
- All parents should use the front door to enter the school with key cards and not the back doors. Parent swipe cards only work at front door.
- Please do not ask students to open any doors- parents must report to the front office and check-in before entering the school.
- No student or other person should use the lunchroom doors other than for dismissal or emergency purposes.
These rules are for our children’s safety.

Car Pool Rules

All Parents who Car Pool:
Please note that the car pool line is for grades N and K only. All other students are to be dropped off in the front of the building.
Parents who use the back for drop off should follow the directions of the teachers in the parking lot. They are there to assist students and maintain a safe environment.
Under no circumstances are parents to park their cars in the middle of the line and leave them unattended to walk students into the building.
** We ask that parents refrain from cellphone use in the parking areas while dropping off and picking up their children.

Birthday Celebrations at School
When sending birthday treats into school to celebrate that special day for your child, please consider sending in a healthy treat, such as frozen fruit bars, rice cakes, fruit salad or cups, sugar free pudding snacks, yogurt cake or pie, cheese sticks, light popcorn or air popped popcorn (when age appropriate), pretzels, carrots/celery (when age appropriate).Please avoid nuts because of allergies.
In order to maintain a consistent kashrut policy and to avoid confusion, ALL orders for birthday cakes/cupcakes MUST be ordered from Cramer’s Bakery, 16 E. Afton Avenue, Yardley. Cramer’s will deliver the order to the school at a discounted price.
